Privacy Policy

Mark-Down is built to be private by design. We don’t make you sign up, we don’t track you, and we don’t keep your files. This policy explains, plainly, what happens to the files you convert.

The short version: No accounts. No advertising or tracking cookies. Your files are used only to perform the conversion you asked for and are then automatically and permanently deleted — nothing is stored long-term, and we never sell or share your files.

1. Who we are

“Mark-Down,” “we,” “us,” or “our” refers to the operator of the Mark-Down file-to-Markdown conversion tool. This policy covers the Mark-Down website and Service.

2. Information we do not collect

We do not require an account, name, or password to use the Service.
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking/analytics profiles to follow you across the web.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your files or personal information to anyone.
We do not use your files to train artificial-intelligence models.

3. Files you upload

To convert a file, the Service must receive it and process it. Here is exactly what happens:

Your uploaded file is held temporarily on the server only for as long as it takes to convert it and let you preview or download the result.
The converted Markdown is placed in a temporary, per-session working folder so you can download it (individually or as a .zip).
These temporary files automatically expire and are permanently deleted a short time after conversion (within a couple of hours at most). We do not maintain a long-term archive of your files or their contents.
We do not read, index, review, or repurpose the contents of your files.

Uploads are at your own risk. Mark-Down is not responsible for any file uploaded to it. Please don’t upload anything you aren’t allowed to share, and always keep your own backups — the Service is not a storage service.

4. Optional AI features

Some optional features — such as AI-assisted understanding of images and scanned documents, or “Caveman” text compression — work by sending the relevant content to a third-party AI/LLM provider (for example, OpenAI) solely to perform the requested conversion. If you use those features, the applicable content leaves our server and is handled under that provider’s terms and privacy policy. If these features are not enabled on the server you are using, no content is sent to any AI provider. If you do not want any content sent to a third party, do not use the AI features.

5. Converting a link or audio

If you convert a web page or YouTube link, our server fetches that address (and, for YouTube, retrieves the video’s transcript) in order to convert it — so a request is made to that third-party site. If you convert an audio file, it may be sent to a third-party speech-recognition service to produce the transcript. As with everything else, the result is held only transiently and then automatically deleted; we don’t keep a copy. If you’d rather not involve a third party, convert a file you already have instead of a link or audio.

6. Basic technical information

Like most websites, our servers may process limited technical information (such as IP address, browser type, and request logs) to operate the Service, keep it secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose problems. This information is used only for those operational purposes and is not used to build advertising or marketing profiles about you. A single small preference stored in your browser (your light/dark theme choice) stays on your device and is never sent to us.

7. How we protect information

We take reasonable technical measures to protect data while it is in our care and keep files only for as long as needed to perform the conversion. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk.

8. Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed to children and is not intended for use by children without the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Your choices

Because we don’t maintain accounts or a long-term store of your files, most data simply expires on its own shortly after conversion. If you have a question about your information, contact us using the details below.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, with an updated “Last updated” date.
